Support for navigating family challenges with compassion and clarity.

Family Therapy

Building healthier relationships & stronger family systems

At Brighter Paths Counseling & Wellness, family therapy helps families navigate conflict, improve communication, and support each other through difficult transitions. Whether you’re struggling with disconnection, parenting stress, or unresolved tension between family members, therapy offers a space to work together toward greater understanding and unity.

A family feeling more loving and connected after family therapy.

What is Family Therapy?

Family therapy involves two or more family members meeting with a licensed therapist to address relational challenges within the family system. Rather than focusing on a single “identified client,” this approach views the family as an interconnected unit—where change in one part affects the whole.

Family therapy can help with immediate crises or long-standing patterns. Whether you’re a parent concerned about a child, a teen feeling misunderstood, or a family facing change or grief, this space is for you.

Common Issues We Address

  • Parent-child conflict

  • Sibling rivalry or disconnection

  • Blended family stress

  • Divorce, separation, or co-parenting transitions

  • Grief or loss in the family

  • Communication breakdown

  • Behavioral issues in children or teens

  • Mental health support for a loved one

  • Faith or value-based conflicts

  • Navigating addiction, recovery, or betrayal trauma as a family

No family is perfect—and you don’t need to be. Family therapy is a space to repair trust, build connection, and move toward greater peace at home.

Our Approach

Our therapists use evidence-based, family-centered approaches that respect each member’s voice. Some of our tools include:

  • Structural Family Therapy to clarify roles and strengthen family organization

  • Bowenian Therapy to reduce reactivity and improve emotional regulation

  • Attachment-Focused Work to rebuild bonds and emotional security

  • Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) to support healing through emotion

  • Parent Coaching and skill-building tools to support effective leadership and connection

  • Psychoeducation about developmental stages, communication styles, or family roles

We create a supportive space for each member to feel seen and heard—while guiding the family as a whole toward more effective interaction.

What to Expect

Family therapy typically begins with a clear understanding of what each person wants to address and improve. Depending on the situation, sessions may include the whole family, certain members at a time, or parent-only work when needed.

Sessions usually last 50 minutes and are tailored to your family’s needs and schedule. The therapist will act as a guide—facilitating conversation, creating safety, and offering tools and insights to support meaningful change.

Benefits of Family Therapy

  • Better communication and listening

  • Reduced conflict and tension

  • Stronger family bonds and trust

  • Clearer roles and healthier boundaries

  • Support for transitions, grief, or trauma

  • Increased understanding between parents and children

  • A shared sense of direction and healing

Family therapy won’t erase all problems—but it can change how your family moves through them together.
